A 55-year-old woman was beaten and stabbed to death by her partner in a suburb of eastern Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, on Monday. It is the ninth femicide in the country since the beginning of 2021 and the third in the month of August.
The body of the woman was found in a lake of blood in her own apartment after a “loud episode” around one o’ clock noon as neighbors told police and media.
Neighbors told Alpha TV that the perpetrator came out to the balcony with blood in his hands and fled the scene.
The police has launched a manhunt against the 56-year-old Georgian national, who was living in the victim’s apartment for the last year.
Also the victim was of Georgian nationality.
A victim’s friend told local media thesstival.gr, the man was an alcoholic and very violent.
Neighbors said that the couple was arguing very often and late at night.
Despite promises to tackle this crucial social issue that has cost the lives of 9 women this year, the government has not launched any campaign or something.
