The latest rankings for the world’s most powerful passports have been revealed, but its unlikely travellers who hold them will be stamping the pages any time soon.
According to the Henley Passport Index, Greece has the 8th most powerful passport in the world, offering its holders visa-free access to 186 countries.
The rankings don’t take into account temporary border restrictions but are based on information from the International Air Transport Association.
Japan again topped the list, offering passport-holders access to 193 destinations around the world without needing a visa.
Greece shares the eighth position with Australia, Malta and Norway.
Meanwhile, Canada is 9th with access to 185 countries visa-free.
Dr Christian H. Kaelin, chairman of Henley & Partners and creator of the passport index, said “the latest ranking is a reminder that economic recovery and development are dependent on global mobility, including personal travel freedom, and that passport power should never be taken for granted.”
“While nobody expects a return to pre-pandemic mobility levels anytime soon, the outlook now is certainly more hopeful than it was even a few months ago.”
