The Germans were linked to the Hellenic Revolution 200 years ago.
At that time there was support from, among others, Stuttgart, where the “Aid Association for Greece” was founded, as the organizers of the parade announced.
The Greek Revolution had triggered a philhellenic movement with great mobilizing power throughout Germany.
Of the approximately 1,200 Philhellenes who traveled to Greece from the north and west of Europe from 1821 to support the struggle for freedom, by far the largest part came from Germany, according to the German embassy in Athens.
