Internationally acclaimed Greek violinist and conductor Leonidas Kavakos was awarded the Greek Parliament’s Gold Medal by Parliament President Constantine Tassoulas on Tuesday.
In an announcement, it was noted that Kavakos was awarded for his significant contribution to the promotion and recognition of Greek cultural output worldwide, but also for his humanitarian support to the war-afflicted people of Ukraine.
Kavakos recently organized a charity concert for Ukraine at the Athens Concert Hall that was attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Prior to the recognition, Kavakos was given a tour of the exhibition “Beholding Liberty! At the Greek Parliament, two centuries later” in the Parliament building that was curated by the Library of the Parliament. It commemorates the bicentennial of Greece’s 1821 War of Independence.
