Toronto DOP Fundraiser for the Greek Community of Toronto

The Toronto Daughters of Penelope (DOP) hosted a third successful virtual Bingo night via Zoom on June 26. With the continued support from the previous Bingo nights, the chapter decided to host a third Bingo night to support the Greek Community of Toronto, raising just over $3,000 from players and donations.

Continuing with the energy from the last event the bingo callers, Gloria Heropoulos and Fillis Paraskevopoulos, were back for a third time. Everyone in attendance inquired if Paraskevopoulos would be back to call the Bingo games and were assured that she would. The duo with their unmatched banter and their love for the game always bring enthusiasm and encouragement to new and returning players.

Like previous Bingo nights, there were three games played, all with different patterns. The first game played was any two lines in any way, the second was in the shape of a picnic table, and the last game was a coverall. The prize for each game was a $100 Visa gift card, all generously donated by one of the chapter members, and their newly elected treasurer, Jane Conte, B.A., LL.B.

Katerina Tsekareas won the first game. Chapter member Gloria Bazos won the second and Jane Conte won the last game played. Both Conte and Tsekareas graciously donated back the proceeds to the Greek Community of Toronto.

The chapter was honored to have DOP Past Canadian President Terri Efston, Past District 23 DOP Governor Dr. Xanthe Vafopoulou, DOP District 23 Governor Angela Mouriopoulos, AHEPA District 23 Governor James Hutchinson, AHEPA District 6 Lt. Governor Chris Pappis, and Maids of Athena District 23 Treasurer Christina Heropoulos all in attendance. The chapter said in statement via email: “Last, and certainly not least, we were honored and thankful to be able to work with DOP District 23 Treasurer Eleni Agas - she was a huge help in organizing this event, it would not have been a success without her. This year has been incredibly difficult for every community, and we are grateful to be able to help within our Greek community when they need us. We are incredibly grateful to have the continued support from our members in the DOP and AHEPA. Without their support we would not have the virtual turnout that we do.”
