Petrounias wins gold in Doha, qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Lefteris Petrounias, the phenomenal Greek athlete on gymnastics still rings, won gold at the 2021 Doha World Cup on Friday and qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games two years after a serious operation on his shoulder.



Dubbed "The Lord of the Rings" for his achievements, Petrounias won gold with a score of 15,500, followed by Brazil's Arthur Zanetti with 14,933 and Iran's Mahdi Ahmad Kohani with 14,800.


Another Greek, Antonis Tantalidis, 24, came third in the final of the floor exercise to win his first medal in a World Cup.


The 2021 Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in the Japanese capital between 23 July and 8 August. They were postponed last year because of Covid-19.
